As Dutch guy I've pretty much been raised on Hans Teeuwen, as have most 90s kids. We used to eat, sleep and drink his material from back in the day. So it's very hard for me to have an unbiased opinion on his work.
A lot of Dutch people pretty much kiss the ground he walks on. The second he announces a tour all dates are sold-out here in the Netherlands. A few years ago he started doing 'stand-up' in England (in English obviously) because he wanted a challenge. He sure got one, initial reviews were not kind. He got boo'd of stage constantly but a small cult following starting emerging.
His new special, which has just been released on Netflix worldwide, called 'Real Rancour' has been getting raving reviews from major newspapers.
His style is obviously very different. It's rooted in classical cabaret theater rather than traditional stand-up (up until about 10 years ago there wasn't really a difference between the two in our culture anyway). And even in that genre he's very much developed his own style. But in this special he's really made a very clear change to relying less on attributes. Something which might appeal more to some of you.
I personally quite liked the special. If anything, give it a shot, it's definitely a different take on comedy. Might be interesting for anyone interested in the craft for that reason, even if you end up hating it.
I'm very curious what you guys think about it.

EDIT: By the way, if you don't have netflix, here's a clip from the show he did in London a few years ago. It's definitely less polished than his new show. Might be due to him still getting his bearings in a new language but it's definitely a more 'hardcore' Hans Teeuwen-esque show.
